1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the WhoOweds mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By downloading, accessing, or using WhoOweds, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.
2. Nature of the Service (Non-Banking Disclaimer)
WhoOweds is a personal, offline-first record-keeping utility. It functions exclusively as an informal ledger to help you track bilateral personal loans, shared expenses, and IOUs among friends, family, and acquaintances.
- WhoOweds is not a bank, credit union, payment processor, money transmitter, or financial institution.
- WhoOweds does not hold, transfer, transmit, or custody real funds or currency.
- Entries, balances, and payment links generated in the app do not constitute legally binding loan contracts or credit obligations.
- Any repayment or transfer of funds between you and another party takes place outside the app (e.g., via cash or third-party payment platforms).
3. Privacy & Local-First Data Storage
WhoOweds operates with an uncompromising offline-first design. All records, contact names, debts, and notes are stored strictly on your local device storage. We operate zero cloud ledger servers and do not harvest or access your personal debt history. Because data resides solely on your device, you are solely responsible for maintaining backups using the app's built-in local JSON export utility.
4. User Eligibility & Security
You must be at least 13 years of age (or the legal age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use WhoOweds. By using the app, you represent that you meet this requirement.
WhoOweds provides optional biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode). You are responsible for safeguarding your physical device and passcode credentials against unauthorized access.
5. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions (WhoOweds Pro)
WhoOweds provides core ledger tracking for free. We offer optional premium upgrades ("WhoOweds Pro") for power users via recurring subscriptions or a one-time lifetime license.
- Billing: Purchases and subscriptions are billed and processed through your Apple App Store or Google Play Store account, using RevenueCat infrastructure for receipt validation.
- Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing cycle in your device's store settings.
- Cancellations & Refunds: You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via Settings > Manage Subscription or directly in your App Store / Google Play account. Refund requests are governed exclusively by Apple's and Google's respective store policies.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for any illegal lending activities, usury, extortion, or unlawful financial transactions.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to tamper with the application binary or entitlement licensing.
- Use generated payment reminders to harass, threaten, or intimidate any individual.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
WHOOWEDS IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT CALCULATIONS, CURRENCY FORMATS, OR DATA STORED WILL BE 100% ERROR-FREE OR IMMUNE FROM LOCAL HARDWARE FAILURE, OS CORRUPTION, OR DATA LOSS. YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR BACKING UP YOUR DATA.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WHOOWEDS, ITS DEVELOPERS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF MONEY, UNCOLLECTED DEBTS, DATA CORRUPTION, OR FINANCIAL DISPUTES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
9. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material updates will be indicated by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the application following any revisions constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
